As part of our Giving Back initiative, Cape Island is excited to announce that we will be partnering with local NGO’s to make a real difference, not only on Mandela Day but every day. Each of our signature fragrancesClifton Beach, Safari Days and Summer Vineyard (previously called Constantia Heights) now supports a charity that speaks to the unique tribute embodied by each fragrance.

Our beautiful scented candles will be spreading a little more light in the world now that a percentage of sales will be donated to charity. We have selected three non-profit organisations as beneficiaries who will receive regular donations based on sales of our hugely popular 250ml single wick candles. For each new fragrance that we create, a local African charity will benefit. Below are the three local charities we’ll be supporting…

For our iconic Clifton Beach fragrance, we are partnering with community-based beach cleanup initiative, Clean-C, with a goal to keep South Africa’s beaches beautiful and elevate awareness around marine conservation. Clean-C organises local community beach cleanups around the Western Cape on the first Saturday of every month and they create jobs through their recycling initiative.

For our Safari Days fragrance we are partnering with Peace Parks Foundation, a transnational conversation initiative founded by Nelson Mandela, HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and Dr Anton Rupert. The dream of the organisation is to preserve large functional ecosystems that transcend man-made boundaries, and the foundation achieve this through many inspiring projects. The Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), supported by Peace Parks and WWF, is one of these projects. SAWC aids in building the capacity of staff in wildlife areas so that more can be done to tackle modern conservation challenges in Southern Africa.

Summer Vineyard (previously Called Constantia Heights) has partnered with Anna Foundationan NGO that runs educational and fun after-school programs for rural children. Challenges faced by rural schools in South Africa include overcrowded classrooms, limited educational resources, lack of library facilities, language constraints, isolated geographical locations and poor transport availability. The Anna Foundation was created to offer support to children attending these schools and to provide them with a stimulating and uplifting environment in which to thrive.

Our brand celebrates all that is beautiful in Africa – it’s something that we’re very proud of – but as an environmentally and socially responsible company we recognise that simply telling these stories is not enough. Our mission is to be a force for positive change in our immediate community and the wider continent by finding ways to give back to our original muse, Africa.

In addition to regular monetary donations, Cape Island will endeavour to promote the incredible work of these organisations through our web and social channels. As a team, we look forward to spreading a little more light in the world.
