Captivating Coconut To Keep the Holidays Alive

 In Blogs, CIFragranceDiaries

To kick off our Fragrance Diaries this year we’re exploring the exotic note of coconut which features prominently in our signature fragrance, Clifton Beach. Just because the holiday season is winding down doesn’t mean that we have to stop dreaming of palm trees scattered along white sandy beaches and fresh Atlantic Ocean mist landing on golden, salted skin.

Our Clifton Beach fragrance opens with sweet and captivating notes, thanks to its top note of coconut. The scent is a holiday in itself. When the smell fills my head I am immediately transported to a tropical wonderland and I can almost taste the refreshingly cold, creamy pulp. The coconut note has energising and uplifting effects on both the mind and the body as it stirs fragrant fantasies and eases anxiety and tension.

Botanically speaking, the coconut fruit is a drupe, not a nut as many people would think. A nut is a seed with a hard, protective outer shell, while a drupe is a nut with a pulpy fruit around it. It turns out that many things we assume to be nuts (such as almonds & walnuts) are actually drupes.

The coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) is incredibly valuable to us as a species and humans have been using virtually every part of the coconut palm for thousands of years. The versatility of the plant is sometimes noted in its naming. In Sanskrit, it is kalpa vriksha (“the tree which provides all the necessities of life”). In the Malay language, it is pokok seribu guna (“the tree of a thousand uses”). In the Philippines, the coconut is commonly called the “tree of life”. The common English name Coconut derives from Portuguese seafarers during the 16th and 17th century for the fruit’s resemblance to a human head.

Aside from its seductive olfactory powers, coconut oil offers fantastic nourishment for the skin, giving you the soothing hydration your skin craves after spending long, languid days under the harsh African sun. Natural coconut oil is a main ingredient used in each one of Cape Island’s Luxury Liquid Soaps and Luxury Lotions for sale in our online store.

If you (like us) aren’t ready for the holidays to be over yet then you can always count on our Clifton Beach candles to help you escape for a while. The stress-relieving coconut aroma will carry your troubles away all year round and leave you feeling fresh, relaxed and happy.
